Time Passes Like Water : A Photographic Installation For Stadium/Chinatown Skytrain Station
Bringing Beauty Back To The Train Station
Our consumer lifestyle has commoditized a necessary and life-sustaining resource. Water - the need of which connects us all - is contained and used to divide. Yet, the facts are that 'our' water is passed to every corner of the earth as it evaporates and travels through the atmosphere. Each person living on this planet breathes it in and stores it in his or her bodies, exhaling half a litre each day. We are connected to one another by these natural processes. We internalize water and live by it. Without clean water, we are doomed. By making this resource a commodity, are we left buying and selling our dignity?
The Chinese proverb, "Time passes like water" reminds the viewer that the water we have passes from one hand to the other as we all participate in stewarding the creation we share.
As people pass by the hallway to the Lost Property office, I believe this image will be calming, slowing the individual down to consider reality. I believe it speaks to the heart about our place in the world and within the community of humanity. It is a time piece for us to use and ponder the history of all people. This piece, along with the works of my colleagues, will transform the space of Stadium/Chinatown Skytrain Station.
